The Pollen Within

Last Updated on November 8, 2021 by Ran

They say that gifts that aren’t given are like flowers without pollen. Useless.

While I am aware that there quite a few pollenless flowers that thrive in this world, I agree with the statement that all gifts should be given. What’s the use of buying a gift if it’s just going to be stuck collecting dust in a corner? At the same time, if you were to give someone a gift, would you like it to be stored and not used?

The same goes for our God-given gifts. As humans, we all have our unique talents and capabilities that we are supposed to discover and share once we do. After all, the reason God gave them to us is for us to use them and show them to the other people. Do you know the most expensive thing in the world? It’s time. Time can never be bought, yet it’s always running out.

Of all the things in this world, time is the most precious. We should not waste it and make the best of it, by spending it with other people and making ourselves better persons.

Come to think of it, each one of us has so many things to share, including our time. These “things” may not be tangible, but they are certainly more valuable than dresses or pairs of shoes.

Are you good in swimming? Teach your cousin some basics the next time you head to the pool. Perhaps you’re talented with arts? You can help your little sister with her art project in school. Or maybe you’re a skilled guitarist? Show your brother some chords so he can finally woo the girl he loves with a song.

Hey, what is the use of your beautiful voice anyway if you’re too scared to sing in front of others? What is the use of your talent for words if you won’t put it to practice just because you’re scared people won’t like your work? None, right? There won’t be any use to those wonderful talents, and they would be a waste.

Share your gifts with others and you are bound to find your true happiness. Remember, flowers with open petals are almost always more pleasing to us than a closed bud. Even though sometimes, petals may drift too far away, it’s just another reason for them to reach out to different people and bring smiles to their faces.

If we find the pollen within us and open our petals for everyone to see, we can be like flowers– flowers who are never afraid to share their beauty and make this world a better place to live in.

–I was fixing my room earlier when I saw a piece of pad paper with this essay on it. If I’m not mistaken, it’s a piece I wrote back when I was 13 or 14. Haha, my way of thinking back then was quite child-like, don’t you think? 🙂
